Raccoons in the attic

The first of the raccoon litters are showing up. You may not even know you have a litter in your home. In a short while you will. Many female raccoons seek out attics to rear their young. It is a safe place from predators and from the elements, which can be nasty in the Spring. A mother raccoon can be very quiet and sneaky, but as the young start to grow and become mobile, you will hear them playing around when the mother is out for the night. It may start out as hearing a whimper when they are real young to sounding like the ceiling is falling in when they start playing as they get older.
When we deal with a litter in a home, it is very important to locate the young before removing the female. Sometimes this can be very challenging, especially if the young are inaccessible from the attic. Sometimes we need to cut them out of the wall or ceiling and hopefully get them on the first attempt. If the litter is mobile, it is much easier to locate and remove them. Raccoons in your attic can really cause a lot of damage from feces and urine. It is important to remove them as soon as possible.
If you think you hear a strange noise in your attic, give us a call at 515-231-8816 and we will check it out for you. You can also use our contact page to leave us a message.
